Voices for a Second Chance

To build bridges with justice-involved District of Columbia residents during incarceration and after release is part of the mission for Voices for a Second Chance (VSC). In September, folks from VSC drove out to the Annapolis Friends meetinghouse to pick up donations of men’s clothing, shoes, accessories and toiletries for their work with citizens in prison and re-entering society post-incarceration https://www.vscdc.org/.

This organization was brought to the attention of the Annapolis Friends Meeting (AFM) Quaker Market Committee a couple of years ago, when they were proposed as possible Market beneficiaries. They were selected for financial support for that Quaker Market, and have since routinely received in-kind donations from unsold items remaining after the Market events. We missed connecting with these folks earlier in the year, after we needed to cancel the in-person Quaker Spring Market due to COVID-19. In this time of social distance and isolation, it was great to meet them back at the meetinghouse parking lot, even if we were all wearing masks. And, thanks to the generosity of AFM community members and the broader community of family, friends and neighbors, we were able to send them off with a van full of donations for the important work they are doing in DC.

Congratulations to VSC for more than 50-years of successful connection of justice-involved individuals to family, community and resources!
