Quaker Market

Quaker Market is our twice-a-year community builder/fundraiser, held the first Saturdays of December and May.

All of the Quaker Markets offer fantastic food and flea market treasures, as well as Afghan rugs, jewelry, scarves. At the Holiday Market in December we also offer handcrafted items, olive oil from Bethlehem, and paperwhite narcissus bulbs. At the Spring Market in May we offer an interesting collection of plants for shoppers’ gardens.

Flea market treasures are typically not priced; shoppers pay what they think is fair for what they are purchasing, in recognition of the fact that shoppers know their personal budgets better than we do.

Market proceeds go to a wide array of causes.  We rotate beneficiaries with each sale.  The first $250 raised goes to our children’s program, and they determine a charity that they would like to support. The remaining funds are split among three or four causes.  Previous recipients include Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN), Orphan Grain Train (for their humanitarian relief work), Wellness House of Annapolis (providing free support services for those whose lives have been touched by cancer), Chesapeake Cats & Dogs, Mennonite Central Committee, Afghan Women’s Fund, Centro de Ayuda—Center of Help, Germantown Elementary School’s Backpack Buddies Program, Ralph J. Bunche Community Center (preserving a rich heritage and providing education and support), Muslim Voice for Peace and Reconciliation (MVPR), and The Light House.
