Dear Friends,
AFM’ s quarterly Deconstructing Racism (DR) group will take place this coming Saturday afternoon, 3:00 – 5:00, via Zoom. The next date on the AFM calendar is third Saturday, October 21, 2023.
We gather to focus on deconstruction of racism as a spiritual endeavor. We come to help one another discern what this means, to support one another, and to hold one another accountable for actions we intend to take against racism.
Queries for our DR gathering are:
1) How is Spirit at work in my life?
2) What am I struggling with/wondering about as I try to deconstruct racism?
3) What do I need from this group in order to discern/take next steps?
These questions are meant to prompt individual reflection and sharing. They are guideposts. We will use a worship-sharing format for the first part of our gathering, followed by conversation and exchange related to what has emerged. Our meeting will begin and end in centering silence. Information shared will be held in confidence among participants.
AFM’s Deconstructing Racism group is evolving. In the initial workshops decades ago, Annapolis Friend Marilyn Gilmore tenderly taught us that we were “clueless” and that racism is in the air we breathe. We remain committed to learning, growing and acting. Thank you to all who have been part of the journey and to those who might want to join DR gatherings.
