Our Quaker testimony calls for us to be good stewards of the planet and our communities. We are pleased to share this announcement from Interfaith Power & Light who are partnering with the Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake, and others in organizing this event for the health and well being of our community, our planet, and its people.

“Friends,
The Maryland General Assembly has convened, and over the next three months our faith communities have a powerful opportunity to speak out for our neighbors and our common home.
Join us, Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake, and our grassroots partners* from across the state for an online legislative briefing on Sunday, January 25th, from 2:00–3:30 pm, as we prepare our faith communities to raise our voices for clean energy and environmental justice over the coming months.

We will open with a panel featuring our friends Jamie DeMarco, José Coronado Flores, and Keya Chatterjee, who will reflect on the communities and values that shaped them and their respective calls to climate action; and why it is so meaningful for all of our Maryland faith communities to speak out this year.
Come learn about how your congregation can help advocate for legislation that would:
-
- Reduce litter and increase recycling of beverage containers (Bottle Bill)
- Strengthen the environmental justice protections considered during the permitting process for new and existing polluters (CHERISH Act)
- Advance solar energy in Maryland
- Bring real wisdom (not artificial intelligence!) to the pollution that data centers may impose here, and insist any data centers be good neighbors in our communities
This event is geared toward Maryland faith communities and congregations and is open to all.”

P.S. Right now, our houses of worship have about six months to start solar projects before federal solar tax credits expire. (Projects must start construction by July 4th this year or place their project into service by the end of next year.) It’s not (quite) too late to pursue congregational solar if you’ve gotten a proposal previously, or are ready to move forward right now. Let’s talk about it! Contact solar@ipldmv.org.
