A big thank you to all who made our Afghan Women’s Fund activities this past weekend at AFM a delightful success!
Saturday’s Afghan cooking class provided an opportunity to enjoy time with Fahima and a small group of Friends, learning how to make dal, Kabuli rice, and chai, which we sampled on the day, and served again the next day for the group potluck.
Class participants and ingredients arrive. Skinning almonds for the Kabuli rice.
The final addition was chopped celery and cilantro.
More Friends were able to join in the next day, when we feasted on food and chai from the cooking class, as well as an abundance of dishes contributed by potluck participants.
Toward the end of potluck, Fahima made a presentation providing insights into the situation on the ground in Afghanistan (photo attached), and the steps Afghan Women’s Fund and partners on the ground are taking to bring hope and help to the people of Afghanistan during this time of Taliban rule.
After Fahima’s presentation, leftovers were quickly packaged into jars for participants to take home. Please remember to return the jars for future reuse by the Quaker Market Committee. Jars should be left in the labeled bin integral to the collection bench at the end of the AFM hallway.
Some Friends mentioned that they still wanted tomake a donation, but did nothave it with them. Checks (written to “Afghan Women’s Fund”) may be left in the Quaker Market Committee mailbox in the AFM office, or mailed to: Atten.: Cairn Krafft, AFM, 351 Dubois Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401. I will collect any additional donations received by 2 April, and mail them off to Afghan Women’s Fund as a batch from this weekend.
Many thanks to all who helped in so many ways, including donating ingredients for the cooking class, cooking food, potluck set up and clean up, tech help, etc.! And, of course, to Fahima for all the work she put into this weekend! We will look forward to welcoming her back at Quaker Spring Market at AFM on 6 May!
In the meantime, you might want to try Fahima’s recipe for Dal from the AFM Cookbook Dall – Cooking with Friends 2014.
with love and gratitude to all,
