Assisting Earthquake Victims in Turkey and Syria

AFM Member with in-depth knowledge of Turkey, shares recommendation for relief donations …

The Maryland American Turkish Association (MATA), has been organizing donations of material and money for earthquake relief in Turkey. To date, [Feb 13, 2022] they have sent 2000 thermal mylar blankets and 200 pounds of protein bars through the help of the Turkish embassy in Washington. If anyone feels inclined to donate money, MATA recommends the following website: tpfund.org as the Turkish embassy is no longer collecting goods and materials as it did the previous week.

This site…tpfund.org is the site for the Turkish Philanthropy Fund, an American organization established earlier to aid Turkey. Money will be sent directly to Turkish NGO’s which have all been vetted by the TPF. The funds they receive will get to a place where the money will immediately be used to purchase food, medicine, blankets, and more. If you have questions or need more information regarding this effort please contact us at info@annapolisfriends.org.

For relief in Syria, AFM’s, Peace and Social Concerns Committee recommends donations go to…

The Syrian Civil Defence organization (aka “White Helmets”) which is recommended by the Brookings Institute — their webpage is https://www.whitehelmets.org/en/.

We recognize that the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) is in the process of organizing a relief effort. But, the two above organizations are already “on the ground” and have been actively involved in rescue efforts. So, our discernment leads us, for immediate action, to recommend those two groups.
