The Good Shepherd

Friends,

On December 28th at 9:30 a.m., our Meeting for Learning will feature a DVD by Dr. Wayne Schwandt titled “The Good Shepherd.”  We will read together the 23rd Psalm, then watch a half-hour long DVD, followed by a sharing/discussion with suggested queries.  Come and see, and listen to one another’s experiences with a heart open to learning and trusting.

In the Christmas story there are some shepherds guarding their sheep by night in the fields. You may remember that they are directed by an angel to go to a stable and see the newborn baby who is the Christ, the Messiah.

Let’s consider this comforting image of a good shepherd who cares for the sheep and might even risk his or her life to protect them from wild animals or from falling off a rocky cliff.   What meaning can that have for us today!?

There are shepherds around today who walk with us and guide us in these dark, uncertain times. It might be your really close f/Friend. It might be the Christ-Light. Or the Presence of peace or love or beauty or . . . . . it might be in the guise of most anything in creation.

Come and see, and listen to one another’s experiences with a heart open to learning and trusting.
