An Annapolis Friend shares the following:
Written today thru the inspiration of the question “What to do?”
BELOVED COMMUNITY
Rosa Parks was not the only one
who would not give up her seat.
There were others.
They went to jail.
They were not alone.
It was a long, hard journey but the bus boycott ensued.
They were not alone.
For folks who lived far from their employment,
it was a very difficult 18 months.
They sang gospel songs on the way to work together.
Finally the bus company suffered loss.
Finally the Supreme Court outlawed the seating system
for the whole country!
Not just for Montgomery, Alabama.
But it took one and a half years of struggle and sacrifice.
They were not alone.
Could we work together, today?
Could we persist in scarcity?
It’s not an overnight process.
It’s not a (s)hero’s task alone.
Are we up for the long haul???
