Sharing Messages at the Meetinghouse

When sharing a message at the in-person 11 o’clock Meeting for Worship, Ministry and Worship asks you to move from your seat to be closer to the OWL (about 8-feet) to speak and to enunciate carefully. Although standing closer to the OWL is a change of practice, if you are called to share a message, you are meant to be heard and getting closer to the Owl will allow those online to hear better.  We appreciate your flexibility.

Thank you,

Ann

Please Note: Spam Emails

Although we are not positive, there is reason to believe that the AFM-Announce and AFM-Discuss email lists were hacked and the hackers sent spam emails to some F/friends disguised as official AFM committee emails. This is a known issue that the Federal Trade Commission is aware of and has a very good article. CLICK HERE to read their article. Religious groups were targeted.

The main thing to know is that these spam emails asking for a reply are not coming from AFM and AFM would not request funds in the way that the hackers do in these spam emails. These spam emails are to be reported as spam to your email service provider and ignored. It is best not to interact with the senders of these emails and to certainly not provide them with any money, gift cards or credit cards.

There is a possibility that the hackers may try to access your email accounts, Facebook, Apple and other online applications. It is suggested that you change passwords for all of your online accounts, including your banking accounts. Another action that you could take is to ensure that the digital security/anitvirus program (e.g., Norton, McAffe). The hackers did not get into the AFM website in any way and that was confirmed by our webmaster, Sheryl G.

Lastly, AFM-Announce and AFM-Discuss are still safe to use. If you have any questions, please contact Ellen M. at communications@annapolisfriends.org

Friends Writing Together

On September 25 (Sunday) at 12:30 pm, AFM’s Friends Writing Together will meet on Zoom. F/friends will meet on Zoom and write stories, poems, or snipits. All are invited to the Friends Writing Together. We write from prompts that are provided by a facilitator, which is a brief suggestion intended to elicit images, stories, and thoughts, which only you know, to which only you can give voice. Sharing aloud is optional. We do not critique this fresh writing, but offer what touched us. Everyone has stories—the prompts simply help guide us toward them. No experience necessary; all ages welcome. Bringing your lunch is optional..

Contact Mary B. at info@annapolisfriends.org for more information.

Chesapeake Quarterly Meeting

On September 25 from 10:00 am until 2:30 pm (in-person & on Zoom), the Homewood Friends Meeting in Baltimore (3107 N. Charles St. Baltimore MD) is hosting the September Chesapeake Quarterly Meeting. A carpool from AFM will be organized.

Annapolis Friends Meeting (AFM) is a “Monthly” meeting because we usually conduct business meetings one time per month. The Annual Meeting that AFM is affiliated with is Baltimore. As you can see a Quarterly Meeting is one that meets 4 times per year. The Quarterly meeting is part of the Annual Meeting and consists of a regional list of Monthly Meetings.

To summarize, the Monthly Meetings are very local, Quarterly Meetings are regional and the Annual takes in several regions. AFM is part of the Chesapeake Quarterly Meeting. It is a wonderful experience to participate in the activities of the Quarterly meeting and engage in the larger community. Check out the detailed information on the AFM website: CLICK HERE

Committee Candidates (that would be YOU!)

The AFM Committees are looking for members to join in the fellowship and, at the same time, get things done. It is a great time to meet people and share in the livelihood of the meeting. To start, you can review the online list of committees and click on the titles to go to a more descriptive page that will detail what each committee works on. This is a wonderful way to enjoy each other’s company, talents, skills and personalities. Let’s energize committees, fill positions on the various committees and bring Spirit-led Friends into the work of the community. Resource: Committee List

5th Night Light – Every Thursday evening

From 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm every Thursday, the AFM community engages in a spiritual practice that acknowledges the Light of God within each person and that to be in community is to actively care for one another. During that time, Friends hold people and situations who need additional spiritual support in the Light. Friends will pause wherever they may be, read the list of names, and hold each person or situation in our hearts and in the Light. On Wednesday, the list of names or situations are sent out to the AFM-Announce list.
