Support for Afghan Refugees

In collaboration with CWS (Church World Service), the refugee agency long known to provide assistance to asylum seekers entering the U.S., AFM’s ad hoc group on Supporting Afghan Resettlement is currently collecting gift cards from Walmart and Target. CWS has indicated that

getting these cards into the hands of Afghan refugees currently based in Lancaster, PA would be of the most benefit to them at this time.

Should you be interested in contributing gift cards, please put them in the red box on the counter inside the lobby of the Meeting House or slip an envelope that is clearly marked “For Afghan Refugees“ through the mailslot next to the front door. (Mailing the cards is discouraged.) Your participation is urgently needed.

Please note our connection with CWS through Friends United Meeting (FUM): FUM is part of CWS and AFM is part of FUM.

For more information, see the 11/26 “Gift Card Initiative“ email or contact Minette C.at amclarkeswindle@gmail.com

Sacred Chant & Dance

On Sunday, December 12th at 9:15, everyone is warmly welcome to attend Sacred Chant & Dance. There’s no need to know how to dance.  You may participate sitting in a chair or standing, singing and/or playing a drum, etc. We’ll either be outside the meetinghouse or in “Zoom-landia,” depending on the weather. An e-mail to the Announce list will be sent around closer to the date to indicate which. Come dance with us! Bring a shaker or drum and your requests if you have a favorite chant.

5th Night Light – Every Thursday evening

Every Thursday from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm, the AFM community engages in a spiritual practice that acknowledges the Light of God within each person and reinforces that to be in community is to actively care for one another. During this time, Friends hold people and situations who need additional spiritual support in the Light. Friends will pause wherever they may be, read the list of names, and hold each person or situation in our hearts and in the Light. On Wednesday, the list of names or situations are sent out to the AFM-Announce list.
