An Invitation to Listen, Learn, and Grow
Black Quaker Voices began as an exhibit for the Annapolis Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival, but its purpose reaches far beyond a single event. It is an invitation to discover the often-overlooked history, contributions, and continuing witness of Black Friends within the Religious Society of Friends.
Through THEN, NOW, and WORLD, we honor those who came before us, listen to contemporary voices, and recognize the global presence of Black Quakers. Through KEEP LISTENING, we invite visitors to continue exploring these stories through videos, writings, conversations, and other resources.
Our hope is that this becomes a living exhibit—one that grows as new voices, perspectives, and stories emerge. We envision a space for education, discovery, reflection, and meaningful dialogue about faith, racial justice, belonging, and the Quaker testimony that there is that of God in everyone.
This work is also an invitation to our wider community. By listening more deeply to Black Quaker experiences, we can better understand our shared history, examine our present, and imagine a more inclusive future.
The exhibit is not the end of a conversation. It is an invitation to begin one.
