Maryland Healthcare for All Initiative

Annapolis Friends Meeting is joining with other BYM meetings to support of a new Maryland Healthcare for All initiative (https://healthcareforall.com/resolution/).  This initiative seeks to make healthcare more affordable and accessible to all Marylanders. It is expected that this would make Maryland's healthcare system more fair and save taxpayer expenses for costly uninsured emergency room visits.

The three main goals of the plan are:

  1.  Advocate for a mechanism to automatically enroll all eligible Marylanders for free or very low-cost health care plans in healthcare coverage, while allowing those who want to opt-out to do so.
  2. Create state-based subsidy programs to improve the affordability of private coverage to uninsured Marylanders and small businesses who enroll through Health Care Connection.
  3. Eliminate immigration status as a factor in determining eligibility for Marylanders who are eligible to enroll in Medicaid or private health care plans from Maryland Health Care Connection.
