Quaker Spring Market

The Spring Quaker Market took place on May 1st and was a wonderful time of fellowship and community building. The beneficiaries will be provided with the proceeds after all the counting and accounting is completed.

Young Friends will receive the first $200 and will meet to discern where they will commit their portion. From the remainder, 75% will be given to external 501(c)3 organizations, and 25% will be given to internal causes. The Quaker Market Committee discerned that the following organizations will be receiving the proceeds:

The first $100 will be allocated to our Young Friends for their discernment. The proposal from the QMC was that the remaining funds be divided equally among three causes (instead of the usual four), with Interfaith Power & Light (IPL-DMV) and the Ralph J. Bunche Community Center as the External Causes and Friends United Meeting COVID-19 Solidarity Fund as the Internal Cause. The proposal to divide the proceeds evenly across these three causes is a minor temporary modification to the normal framework of 75% to External and 25% to Internal due to the pandemic. More information about Quaker Market will be provided in the near future.

5th Night Light – Every Thursday evening

From 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm, the AFM community engages in a spiritual practice that acknowledges the Light of God within each person and that to be in community is to actively care for one another. During that time, Friends hold people and situations who need additional spiritual support in the Light. Friends will pause wherever they may be, read the list of names, and hold each person or situation in our hearts and in the Light. On Wednesday, the list of names or situations are sent out to the AFM-Announce list.
