Spring Clean-up Day

The annual Spring Clean-up Day will be held at the meetinghouse and is scheduled for March 20th (Saturday) 8:00 am to 2:00 pm with plenty of outdoor tasks, so that Friends can stay socially distanced and help with gardening, fixing fences, mulching, sorting items in the shed and more. The tasks do not need to be done that day. Friends can select a task and complete the task at a time that is more convenient for them. Come enjoy the fellowship and exercise!

Reminder – Easter (April 4th)!

The 4th Month Meeting for Worship (MfW) with Attention to Business (wAtB) will be held on April 11th at 9:15 am, instead of the usual 1st Sunday at 9am. The change was approved at the 3rd Month MfW wAtB, so that Friends can celebrate Easter on the 1st Sunday of April (04/04/2021) . The change in start time is designed to provide a bit of break between Early Worship and the MfW wAtB.

For more information, contact Martha B. at clerk@annapolisfriends.org.

Also! The Ministry & Worship (M&W) Committee is meeting soon to plan some Easter events. If you have thoughts and ideas to offer please contact Ann R. or Peter M. A Friend suggested a Zoom sunrise event. More information will be coming soon.

For more information or to offer ideas, contact Ann R. at ministry@annapolisfriends.org.

Meetings for Learning

On March 28th at 9:15 am the Ministry & Worship Committee will be presenting the third in the series of the Introduction to Quakerism and the topic will be Contemporary Friends and Theological Diversity. There will be a lecture, video and slides for this presentation, as well as a question & answer session. Both newcomers and experienced Friends are welcome to join us for the last of three Meetings for Learning in our current Introduction to Quakerism series.  For March 28th, the session will cover a variety of questions, such as: How has the balance between Scripture, community, tradition and mysticism shifted over the years, and where are we now? What different forms does 21st Century Quaker worship take, in North America and beyond? Where do Quakers overlap with other forms of worship? If you would like to prepare by watching the video we’ll use, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnETl4i4prg

Quaker Voice of Maryland

Updates for Week 9

  • We continue to keep our eye out for bill voting sessions – Bills really need to be scheduled prior to “crossover day” on 3/22 to make it out of committee and to the chamber floor. We will be updating our priority bill list with voting dates and general bill updates as they become known.
  • The Ombudsman had its bill hearing on Tuesday – The bill was heard in both the Senate and the House; if you are interested in hearing reactions from the committee the recording is available on the committee meeting page for your viewing pleasure.
  • Focus is on the House for Police Accountability & Climate Solutions Now – Earlier in the week we sent out two committee-focused action alerts this week to Quaker Voice members who have representatives on the Judiciary or Economic Matters committees because their influence could be key. Since then the Climate Solutions Now bill was officially passed in the Senate — wahoo, now on to the House!

Updates as we look forward to Week 10 (3/15-3/19):

  • Action Alert # 1 (Link): The Ombudsman bill had hearings on 3/9 and needs extra support to get scheduled for a vote; the earlier you take action this week, the better! Action alert and more information can be found on our website: https://www.quakervoicemd.org/legislative-session
  • Action Alert # 2 (Link): The Reward Educational Milestones bill had hearings in Jan. & Feb. and needs extra support to get scheduled for a vote; the earlier you take action this week, the better! Action alert and more information can be found on our website.
  • “Annapolis Lunch Break” on Mondays @ 12:15pm: Quaker Voice continues to host a virtual meet-up with Friends to touch base on the Action Alert for the week and then “go” take action. The meet-up should only take 10-15 minutes. If you are new to advocacy work or need a little extra support to feel confident to take the action, this meet-up is for you!  Join us in Zoom –> https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85050569999 // Meeting ID: 850 5056 9999; info is also listed on our events calendar.

For more information, contact Phil C.. at social-concerns@annapolisfriends.org.

5th Night Light – Every Thursday evening

From 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm, the AFM community engages in a spiritual practice that acknowledges the Light of God within each person and that to be in community is to actively care for one another. During that time, Friends hold people and situations who need additional spiritual support in the Light. Friends will pause wherever they may be, read the list of names, and hold each person or situation in our hearts and in the Light. On Wednesday, the list of names or situations are sent out to the AFM-Announce list.
